To improve the contaminant control performance of fume hoods, experimentally studies the effect of vertical operating opening, horizontal operating opening, face velocity and position of operating opening on the performance of contaminant control in the breathing zone in front of the fume hoods by tracer gas test method and orthogonal test method in a fume hood performance test room. The results of range analysis and variance analysis indicate that the order of influence of each factor on contaminant control effect in breathing area is vertical operating opening, horizontal operating opening, face velocity and position of operating opening. With the increase of horizontal operating opening and vertical operating opening, the control effect of fume hood on contaminant in the breathing zone decreases. With the increase of face velocity, the control effect increases. The influences of vertical operating opening and horizontal operating opening on the control concentration are highly correlated. The effect of each factor on the control concentration can only be reflected when the other factor reaches a certain level.
